Our Expedited Service commitment is to process your passport application within 8 business days from the time we receive your application at a passport agency (or at the point you request expedited service). If this service commitment is not met, you can request a refund the Expedited Service fee.
If you applied at a passport acceptance facility or through the mail, you can determine when your application was received at a passport agency by contacting the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.

It takes about 4 weeks to receive your refund once the request has been approved.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis. We cannot refund passport execution fees, nor compensate applicants for missed travel. We cannot refund passport application fees except in very limited circumstances outlined in 22 C.F.R. § 51.53(a).
