Renew Your Passport from Canada
Learn how to renew your U.S. passport from Canada. Applying from outside the United States is different than inside the United States.
What to know before you start
- You cannot renew your passport online if you live in Canada.
- If you are traveling in less than 8 weeks, you will need to visit a U.S. embassy or consulate. Plan ahead and skip the trip to an embassy or consulate by mailing your renewal application to the United States.
- You cannot renew a passport for a child under age 16. You must apply for a new passport for your child at a U.S. embassy or consulate in Canada.
- If you don’t meet the requirements to renew your passport, you must apply again in person. This includes if your passport was lost or stolen or was issued more than 15 years ago.
- Learn more at Mission Canada's navigator tool.
