Learn about the limited-edition commemorative U.S. passport celebrating America’s 250th anniversary and how to apply for one starting July 6, 2026.

About the commemorative passport

The State Department has created a limited-edition U.S. passport to commemorate the historic occasion of America’s 250th anniversary. This special passport has custom artwork and enhanced images on the front, back, and inside covers. It has all the same advanced security features that make the U.S. passport the most secure travel and identity document in the world.

Issuance of the commemorative passport

The limited-edition commemorative passport will be issued at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C. starting on July 6, 2026 while supplies last. Applicants seeking the commemorative passport may schedule an in-person appointment at the Washington Passport Agency or apply at a special passport acceptance event listed on this page.

You will not receive a commemorative passport if you:

  • Apply online
  • Mail in your application
  • Apply at a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad
  • Apply in-person during normal hours at a passport agency other than the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C.
  • Apply at the Washington Passport Agency before July 6, 2026

Option 1: If you have international travel planned within 14 days, make an in-person appointment at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C.

Follow these steps starting on July 6, 2026:

  • Use the Online Passport Appointment System to make an appointment.
  • Select the Washington Passport Agency.  If you select a different agency, you will not receive a commemorative passport.
  • Pay the $60 expedite fee required for applicants applying in person at a passport agency, along with any other application fees.

Option 2: Make an appointment at a special passport application acceptance event designated specifically for the commemorative passport

You can apply for the commemorative passport by attending a select number of special passport acceptance events designated specifically for the commemorative passport, which will be listed here as they are announced:

  • Saturday, August 22, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Washington Passport Agency
  • Saturday, September 26, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Washington Passport Agency

Please check back for appointment details. We will update this list as needed.

When you apply at a listed event, regular fees and processing times will apply and your commemorative passport will be mailed to you.

The commemorative passport has 28 pages, just like the standard passport book design. Large format passport books have 52 pages, but use the existing design, not the commemorative passport limited-edition artwork.

If you make an urgent travel appointment at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C. and request a large passport book, it cannot be printed onsite. We will collect your materials and electronically transfer your application to a facility where we print large passport books. Your new passport can be sent to you via standard USPS Priority mail or trackable 1 to 3 day delivery.
