About the commemorative passport

The State Department has created a special U.S. passport to commemorate the historic occasion of America’s 250th anniversary. This special passport has custom artwork and enhanced images on the front, back, and inside covers. It has all the same advanced security features that make the U.S. passport the most secure travel and identity document in the world.

Issuance of the commemorative passport

The special commemorative passport is being issued at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C. Applicants seeking the commemorative passport may schedule an in-person appointment at the Washington Passport Agency or apply at a special passport acceptance event listed on this page.

You will not receive a commemorative passport if you:

Option 1: Make an in-person appointment at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C. 

  • Dial 1-877-487-2778 and select option 9 to check appointment availability at the Washington Passport Agency. Appointments cannot be made online.
  • Expedite and routine services are available.
  • If you do not have imminent international travel, your passport will be mailed to you.

Option 2: Make an appointment at a special passport application acceptance event designated specifically for the commemorative passport

You can apply for the commemorative passport by scheduling an appointment at one of the special passport acceptance events designated specifically for the commemorative passport, which will be listed here as they are announced:

  • Saturday, August 22, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Washington Passport Agency
  • Saturday, September 26, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Washington Passport Agency

Appointments are limited and will be released two weeks before each event.

When you apply at a listed event, regular fees and processing times will apply and your commemorative passport will be mailed to you.

The commemorative passport has 26 pages, just like the standard passport book design. Large format passport books have 50 pages, but use the existing design, not the commemorative passport artwork. 

If you make an appointment at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C. and request a large passport book, it cannot be printed onsite. We will collect your materials and electronically transfer your application to a facility where we print large passport books. Your new passport can be sent to you via standard USPS Priority mail or trackable 1 to 3 day delivery.

Application forms

Applications for commemorative passport use the State Department's established passport application forms, the DS-82 or DS-11, depending on your eligibility.
