Passports and Religious Accommodations
You can request a religious accommodation when you submit your passport application. This right is protected by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
A religious accommodation allows you to change part of the application process so you can follow your religious beliefs.
To request an accommodation, you must submit a signed statement with your application. The statement must:
Explain how and why your religious beliefs make it difficult for you to complete a specific part of the application process.
Detail your religious activity or exercise and how it connects to your religious beliefs.

We will review requests on a case-by-case basis.
If we grant your request and you meet the requirements for a passport, we will issue your passport. If we do not grant your request, we will mail you a letter and explain what you need to provide to apply for your passport.
