Violent crime can occur anywhere in Saint Lucia. U.S. citizens and other foreigners in Saint Lucia have been victims of armed robbery, assault, burglary, and rape. In some cases, U.S. citizens have been killed.

Demonstrations in Saint Lucia are generally infrequent and peaceful. They are almost always centered in Castries near the Parliament building or public squares.
U.S. citizens are generally not specifically targeted for crime in Saint Lucia. However, crimes of opportunity such as petty larceny, burglary, automobile break-ins occur. Incidents of violent crime occur. They include murder, sexual assault, robbery, shootings, and drug related crimes.

Financial scams/Internet romance scams are not common in Saint Lucia. However, be careful of anyone asking for money, especially those who start a "romantic" relationship online or claim local authorities want money. Scams often begin through online posts, emails, or letters. Scammers pretend to be U.S. citizens in need of help.

There are no legal restrictions on consensual same-sex relations. In July 2025, the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court ruled that 2 laws in Saint Lucia were unconstitutional. The laws had made same-sex “buggery” and “gross indecency” a crime. However, same-sex marriage is not legal in Saint Lucia, and gay and lesbian residents continue to face discrimination.
Access to buildings, pedestrian paths, and transportation is extremely difficult for persons with mobility issues.
Ambulance services are not widely available.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have rules for bringing medication back into the United States. If you buy medications abroad, the medications must meet CBP’s and the FDA’s requirements to bring them back legally.
