Information for Customers in the McKinney and Plano, TX Commuting Areas

If you're traveling internationally in more than 9 weeks, apply in person at an acceptance facility in the McKinney and Plano, TX commuting areas which are listed below. If you're eligible to renew your passport by mail, then you do not need to visit an acceptance facility.

These 2 facilities are open for extended hours and require appointments:

  1. Frisco Public Library: Mon-Fri, 12pm-8pm; Sat. 11am-6pm, Sun. 1pm-6pm. 
  2. Plano Main Post Office: Mon-Fri, 9am-2pm.  Use the USPS online appointment tool or call 1-844-661-8730 to make an appointment.

These 8 facilities require appointments:

  1. McKinney Post Office: Mon-Fri, 10am-3:30pm
  2. Frisco Post Office: Mon-Fri 10am-1pm and 2pm-3pm
  3. Richardson Main Post Office: Mon-Fri, 9am-2pm
  4. Garland Main Post Office: Mon-Fri, 11am-4pm
  5. Plano Coit Post Office: Mon-Fri, 9am-2pm
  6. Nevada Post Office: Mon-Fri, 9am-12pm and 1pm-3pm
  7. Allen Post Office: Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm
  8. Blue Ridge Post Office: Mon-Fri, 8:30am-12pm and 1pm-3pm

Use the USPS online appointment tool or call 1-844-661-8730 to make an appointment to apply for a passport at one of these U.S. Post Offices.

How to Apply at a Passport Agency

1. Find out if you're eligible

To apply at this passport agency, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Make an appointment by calling 1-877-487-2778 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Mondays through Fridays, or on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Our appointment line is closed on federal holidays. We do not charge a fee to make appointments.
  • If you have not yet applied, you must be traveling internationally within 14 calendar days. If you have already applied, you must be traveling internationally within 5 calendar days. 
  • Be able to show printed proof of international travel (such as your flight itinerary, hotel reservation, cruise tickets, or international car insurance).
  • Pay the $60 expedite fee in addition to the regular application fees.
  • Note: your appointment must be within 14 calendar days of your international travel if you have not yet applied, or 5 calendar days if you have already applied. If you need a foreign visa, the date of your appointment must be within 28 calendar days of your international travel.

2. Collect all your application materials

 
  • Appointment confirmation number and instructions emailed to you by the National Passport Information Center when the appointment was scheduled.
  • Printed proof of international travel
    • If you are flying internationally, you must provide a flight receipt or an itinerary. If you are traveling by land or sea to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, or the Caribbean, you can provide a hotel reservation, cruise tickets, or international car insurance.
  • Completed form(s)*
  • All required supporting documents*
  • One passport photo
  • Application fee and expedite fee. We accept:
    • Major credit cards
    • Debit/Check card (not ATM cards)
    • Cash (exact amount only- no change provided)
    • Checks
    • Bank Draft or Money order
  • If you are applying for a child under 16, both parents and child must be present to apply. You must submit documentation that shows parental relationship to that of the child applying for a passport.  See Children Under 16 for a full list of requirements and documents.

3. Make an appointment

You must make an appointment to apply at a passport agency. 

To make an appointment, call 1-877-487-2778. Se habla español. Be sure to keep track of the appointment confirmation number and the check-in instructions you will receive by email from the National Passport Information Center. You will need this information on the day of your appointment. 

If you are applying at a passport agency or center on the weekend, we will only accept your application. At your appointment, tell us if you want to pick up your passport on a different day or have us mail your passport to you.

4. Arrive early to your appointment

 
  1. We suggest you arrive 15 minutes early to go through security screening. You must show valid government ID to enter the building. Weapons, food, and drinks (except water in a sealable bottle) are not allowed.
  2. No more than 15 minutes prior to your appointment time, take the elevator to the 11th floor, Suite 1120.
  3. Check in at the Information Desk. Give them your appointment confirmation number to verify your appointment.
  4. Be seated and wait until we call your number.
  5. When we call your number, go to your assigned window.
  6. A Department of State employee will review your application and supporting materials and discuss available delivery options.

Parking Information

There are parking lots on the corner of Commerce and S. Griffin St. in front of the Federal building; behind the Federal building at S. Griffin and Jackson St.; and at S. Griffin and Wood Street.

Daily parking rates in the area range from $6 – $10 depending on location. Parking rates subject to change without notice.
