Haiti: Judicial Strike Delays Processing of Intercountry Adoptions

Last Updated: June 6, 2019

The Department of State, Office of Children’s Issues, wishes to advise U.S. prospective adoptive parents and adoption service providers of potential delays in the processing time to complete an adoption from Haiti due to a judicial strike. The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince reports that Haitian courts are only processing emergency criminal cases at this time.  Courts in all 18 jurisdictional districts will likely remain closed for routine business until the strike is resolved.

The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince and the Office of Children’s Issues will continue to monitor this situation.  Please e-mail the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince at papadoptions@state.gov or the Office of Children’s Issues at adoption@state.gov with any questions or concerns related to this developing situation.
