The Government of Kazakhstan has requested the Department of State inform adult adoptees from Kazakhstan that generally dual citizenship is prohibited, but an exception is made for adopted children until they reach age 18. Adopted individuals who acquired U.S. citizenship may register their loss of Kazakh nationality when they turn 18. The Government of Kazakhstan has informed us that failure to complete this registration could result in fines if adoptees over age 18, who have not completed their registration, enter Kazakhstan. Step-by-Step Procedure
1. Fill out the application for registration of loss of Kazakhstan citizenship. The document can be downloaded from the website for the Kazakhstan government.

According to Kazakhstan law, adoptive parents must provide post adoption reports (PAR) every six months for the first three years after the adoption is finalized and then each year until the child reaches 18 years of age.
