  • Full name (including any aliases used)
  • Date of birth
  • City and country of birth
  • Visa case number
  • Date of interview
  • Applicant’s passport number
Where to send correspondence
  • Send your correspondence to the consular section at the U.S. embassy or consulate handling the case.
  • Make sure you’re sending it to the correct office in the country, especially if there are multiple U.S. consulates in addition to the embassy.
  • Sending it to the processing office speeds up the response time.
Use email for faster responses
  • Email is the quickest and most accurate way to get a response.
  • Physical mail takes longer due to routing and screening.
  • Include a return email address for faster communication.
  • Find the designated congressional email address for each U.S. embassy or consulate abroad here.
  • Always include your Congressional email address.
Less productive inquiries to avoid
  • Contacting posts before applying for a visa.
  • Correspondence about immigrant visa cases with pending priority dates.
