Fiji – Foreign Authorization

Last Updated: September 12, 2022

To support the viability of intercountry adoption as an option for permanency for children in Fiji, the Office of Children’s Issues and the U.S. Embassy in Suva sought information from the Fijian Central Authority regarding its legal requirements for the authorization of adoption service providers (ASP), pursuant to Article 12 of the Hague Adoption Convention.

Fiji ratified the Convention on April 29, 2012, and it entered into force on August 1, 2012.

The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation is reviewing their laws related to the Hague Convention and during this review intercountry adoptions are not possible.

ASPs with questions about adoptions from Fiji should contact the Fijian Central Authority, The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Level 5 Civic Towers, Suva, Fiji, Phone: +679 331 2848, E-mail: jennifer.poole@govnet.gov.fj.

For additional information, ASPs may wish to review the Fiji country-information page.
