Helpful Hints for Mailing Your Completed DS-82
For more information on Renewing your U.S. Passport using 
Form DS-82: Application for a U.S. Passport By Mail , please contact the
National Passport Information Center.

When attaching your Passport Photo to Form DS-82, be sure you:

  • Staple the Photo to the Application (as shown)
    • Use 4 staples vertically in the corners as close to the outer edges as possible
    • In the example to the left, the red lines represent staples
  • Do Not Bend the Photo
  • Do Not Attach the Second Photo to the Application
    • Insert inside mailing envelope with application

We recommend submitting the completed Form DS-82 in a sturdy, weatherproof envelope that does not require the application to be folded.  In addition, be sure you:

  • Do Not Submit Cash
  • Do Not Submit Additional Postage
  • Do Not Submit Return Mailing Envelopes
  • Please do not submit any prepaid return mailing envelopes or mailing stamps. Newly issued Passport Books are delivered via Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation, unless you pay for overnight delivery return service at time of application. Overnight delivery service is not available for passport cards, which are delivered via First Class Mail only.

 


  • When requesting Routine Processing Service, submit the completed application to:

  • When requesting Expedited Processing Service, be sure to write "EXPEDITE" clearly on the outside of the mailing envelope.  Submit the completed application to:
