Refund of Expedite Passport Fees
Our Expedited Service commitment is to process your passport application within # business days from the time we receive your application at a passport agency (or at the point you request expedited service). If this service commitment is not met, you can request a refund the Expedited Service fee.
Request a refund of the expedite fee, if:
- You paid the $60 fee for expedite service, and
- You have reason to believe that you did not receive expedited service.
- If you applied at a passport acceptance facility or through the mail, you can determine when your application was received at a passport agency by contacting the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.
How to Request a Refund of the Expedite Fee
Refund requests by email:
Email RefundsAtPassportServices@State.gov with the following information:
- Your full name
- Your date of birth
- Your mailing address
Refund requests by mail:
Mail your refund request, along with the above information, to:

Washington, D.C. 20522-2999
It takes about 4 weeks to receive your refund once the request has been approved.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis. We cannot refund passport execution fees, nor compensate applicants for missed travel. We cannot refund passport application fees except in very limited circumstances outlined in 22 C.F.R. § 51.53(a).
