UAA – Interim Final Rule on Accreditation and Approval of Adoption Service Providers

Today, the Federal Register published our interim final rule entitled: Intercountry Adoption Accreditation of Agencies and Approval of Persons. The new regulation amends and revises the Department’s regulation found at 22 CFR Part 96. The revisions reflect the requirements of the Intercountry Adoption Universal Accreditation Act of 2012 (UAA), which extends the accreditation requirement and standards from Convention cases to non-Convention or “orphan” cases. The effective date of the UAA and of the interim final rule is July 14, 2014.

The Department welcomes public comments on the interim final rule. The interim rule is open to public comment until September 12, 2014. See the Federal Register Notice for further details. The Notice can be found at the following link: Federal Register Notice of interim final rule.
