The Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA) is part of the U.S. Department of State. We protect the lives and interests of American citizens abroad and strengthen the security of United States borders through the vigilant adjudication of visas and passports. We are part of the Management Group in the U.S. State Department. There are eight offices led by the Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs.

    The principal strategic and resource management office for the Bureau of Consular Affairs.

  • Consular Systems & Technology

    Office of Consular Systems & Technology

    Develops, installs and provides training for the Bureau's automated information processing systems.

  • Executive Director

    Office of Executive Director

    Provides a full range of management support for the Bureau, including management of the Bureau's IT systems and infrastructure, human resources, and controlled consular supplies.

  • Fraud Prevention

    Office of Fraud Prevention

    Dedicated to providing resources, tools, and information that will enhance consular officers' ability to detect and deter passport and visa fraud.

  • Overseas Citizen Services

    Office of Overseas Citizen Services

    Responsible for the protection and safety of U.S. citizens traveling and residing abroad.

  • Policy Coordination & Public Affairs

    Office of Policy Coordination & Public Affiars

    Articulates the Bureau's policy through media relations, public outreach, Congressional liaison, and strategic planning.

  • Passport Services

    Office of Passport Services

    Creates passport cards and books while validating the identity and citizenship of applicants. Provides information and services to U.S. citizens about how to obtain, replace, or change a U.S. passport.

  • Visas Services

    Visa Services Office

    Covers all aspects of visa policy, procedures, and information related to the issuance on U.S. visas to foreign citizens who are applying at U.S. embassies and consulates overseas.
