Switzerland:  Decision to Close Intercountry Adoptions from the United States

The Swiss Federal Office of Justice reported on December 22, 2023, that Switzerland has suspended adoptions with the United States. Suspending means that no new adoptions cases will be approved between the United States and Switzerland.

The Office of Children’s Issues understands that the decision will not impact the completion of current dossiers.  Additionally, the Swiss Central Authority will continue to process relative adoptions. The Swiss Central Authority will review the situation on a case-by-case basis.
