Reminder: Senegal’s Suspension on Intercountry Adoption Continues

Last Updated: January 9, 2019

The Office of Children’s Issues has received recent inquiries from adoption service providers and prospective adoptive parents expressing interest in intercountry adoption in Senegal. However, Senegal’s adoption authority, Directrice de l’Education Suveillée et de la Protection Sociale (DESPS) Ministere de la Justice, has confirmed that the February 2012 suspension on intercountry adoption remains in place while Senegal continues to work on finalizing the necessary documents required to process intercountry adoption cases under the Hague Adoption Convention. Therefore, intercountry adoptions are not possible between the United States and Senegal at this time.

We will continue to engage with the Senegalese government on these issues and provide additional information as it becomes available. Please continue to monitor our website, http://adoptions.state.gov, for updated information. For questions about this notice, please email the Office of Children’s Issues at adoption@state.gov.
